DASH / UBER - Food delivery services are unlikely to ever be profitable

That’s going to backfire, especially if competitors don’t do the same.

While people’s average amounts might be well over the $35 minimum, the whole point of subscribing is for convenience. Being forced to plan out your orders in advance to meet a higher minimum is not convenient.

Re-opening this thread as DASH has earnings coming up and there has been some discussion on the TF about it. So… let’s discuss away!

Dash is one of those that should provide bad guidance - folks surely are using less of their services if their purses are getting tighter? 27B company with 5B in revenue and made a loss of 500M ''only," no as destitute. Nevertheless… took the following trade:

BOT +2 VERTICAL DASH 100 (Weeklys) 5 AUG 22 65/60 PUT @1.20

I think the results will be bad, and guidance will be bad for DASH, but I’m going to play it expecting a maximum move of somewhere between 15 - 20% (implied move is 13% right now, I like to play slightly more than implied) depending on where it’s trading on thursday. Last quarter the crappy earnings was pretty priced in and the stock didn’t move at all on the report.

Remember that we are in a “not as bad as feared” trading environment right now with all these stocks already down 80%+

Interesting little WSJ article… Looks like DoorDash found another revenue stream…

https://www.wsj.com/articles/facebook-marketplace-and-doordash-team-up-for-local-deliveries-11660329443

Drivers for DoorDash Inc. DASH 0.01%▲ are now delivering items to consumers purchased online from Facebook META 1.32%▲ Marketplace as part of a new partnership between the delivery app and Facebook parent Meta Platforms Inc.

The deal is an attempt to get more people, especially younger ones, to use Facebook, while boosting DoorDash’s ambition to expand into delivering more than food.

Meta and DoorDash tested the service in several U.S. cities in recent months, the companies said. The service lets Facebook users purchase and receive items from Marketplace without leaving their homes. It can deliver items that fit in a car trunk and are up to 15 miles away, people familiar with the plan said. Deliveries would be made within 48 hours, the people said.

LYFT is a smidge above 50SMA on the daily ($15.22).something to keep an eye on. Might see continued downtrend w/ SPY if it closes below.
52wk low of $11.96

NY Times reporting Uber has been hacked and if true it’s significant. Domain admin access, etc.

First of all if you have used Uber it is worth removing your payment information, resetting your password and configuring 2-step verification.

Second it might be worth watching to see if this news impacts UBER

I can say here in NY the local County government was hacked and currently has a ransom ongoing for 45mil. All computers etc for county purposes inaccessible. Quite surreal and making a big impact in their business continuity plan

As someone that’s been on the receiving end of a data breach it’s horrible to experience.
