yeah it’s crazy, haven’t seen anything to suggest it’s spreading any other way than close contact though. Seems like the UK has the highest cases and is being spread through gay men. SIGA has just recieved approval for Tecrovirimat in the UK too.
ended up taking some ATM SIGA calls for september today, looks like it’s tightening up… still looking for a break of the 14.5 area though.
WHO convening next week and could potentially declare monkeypox a global emergency. Could be the catalyst to push it above 14.5 if so.
Beaker posted this in TF but just adding it here, Canada ordered another 26m and another 2m from two other countries worth of TPOXX.
To date this year, SIGA has received approximately $56 million of international orders for oral TPOXX (tecovirimat) from six jurisdictions, of which five are new customers. As such, including deliveries made in the second quarter, we expect at least $26 million of international deliveries by September 30, 2022; the timing of delivery for the remaining orders will be disclosed at a later date.
“The increase over the last two months in international orders of oral TPOXX (tecovirimat) reflects an initial public health reaction to the evolving monkeypox outbreak,” said Phil Gomez, CEO of SIGA. “SIGA continues to receive a large number of ongoing inquiries about accessing oral TPOXX. We believe these new orders and the ongoing inquiries highlight the overall importance of health security preparedness, and that by increasing both the scale and scope of TPOXX stockpiling, countries can be better prepared for the outbreak risks of smallpox, monkeypox, and other viruses in the orthopoxvirus family of viruses and make sure that patients are able to access treatment.”
Looks like it’s finding support on the 10EMA and setting higher lows.
Something interesting from the article about WHO meeting next week I think is interesting
The WHO last issued a [global health emergency in January 2020 in response to the Covid-19 outbrea and the following March declared it a pandemic There’s no official process for the WHO to declare a pandemic under its emergency regulations, which means the term is loosely defined. In 2020, the agency declared Covid a pandemic in an effort to warn complacent governments about the “alarming levels of spread and severity” of the virus
I think they could declare an emergency in order to push governments to act on it sooner than later.
Just adding recent news article:
WHO meeting is tomorrow with statements released “in the days following”.
If you wanted to play this, theres a good entry around here… 10 EMA has been good support for past two weeks and it’s also at the bottom of the channel. I’m adding a little
Not really much of interest said at the WHO meeting so far.
“It’s pleasing to note an apparent declining trend in some countries, but others are still seeing an increase, and six countries reported their first cases last week.”
“I am acutely aware that any decision I take regarding the possible determination of a Public Health Emergency of International Concern involves the consideration of many factors, with the ultimate goal of protecting public health.”
Just saw this news article on CNBC
Biden administration considering public health emergency in response to monkeypox outbreak
Was trying to find news to find out why it dumped today, only reason I can think is if people were assuming that the WHO would immediately declare a pandemic emergency. I don’t think that’s the case and if they are going to declare it, it will be in the next few days.
Monkeypox declared global health emergency by WHO. Hopefully the dump yesterday didnt kill the momentum SIGA had.
Yep, just saw the headlines on Fox News too. Likely SIGA and others will get a bump on monday.
Feel like this might have something to do with the dump, might have been known that the majority of the committee were going to vote “no” on declaring PHEIC. However the head of the WHO overruled it.
Monkeypox could actually be airbone.
Given the PHEIC and the news that it’s starting to show up in pediatric patients I’m interested in SIGA again and BVNRY. FDA has streamlined prescription requirements for SIGA’s treatment now.
It’s a nasty looking and miserable disease, though fatalities are rare. It can take people down for a month. But with pandemic fatigue and the messaging that this is primarily a concern for MSM, will the general public care. I’m leaning toward maybe premarket scalp and some longer dated calls on SIGA. BVNRY would seem more of a buy and hold.
Interested to know how others may be thinking of playing this.
I scaled out my august SIGA calls, still holding a couple septembers.
Another news article:
The Biden administration privately estimated to Congress this month that it may need nearly $7 billion to mount a response to the nation’s monkeypox outbreak that matches “the scope and urgency of the current situation.”
The funding estimate, the details of which were contained in a memo addressed to President Biden and obtained by The Washington Post, reflected early talks among congressional Democrats and White House officials in pursuit of a spending package that could boost the availability of monkeypox tests, vaccine doses and treatments.

Congratulations everybody
Health secretary calls on Congress and states to do more to help contain monkeypox outbreak
Come hell or high water, I’m going in on SIGA tomorrow… Only been posting about monkeypox for a month… F me, am I right?
Thanks for sharing this list, @nightowlzen!
This is their performance over the last month:
SIGA has run up a lot already, and so has BVNRY, because they have the good stuff ready to go. EBS and AEMD have promise too though, it seems. If monkeypox becomes a full-blown thing, the funding will be distributed, in which case laggards could benefit.
I don’t understand enough of the pharma to comment on which one(s) would be better to bet on. Any pharma/medical experts in the house?
